Kids Can Cook: A Farm-to-Table Day Camp

Kids Can Cook: A Farm-to-Table Day Camp connects children to the wonder and beauty of nature through food, nutrition, farming, and participation in traditional crafts.

Campers help care for the sheep, chickens, pigs and cows, and assist in the gardens. Not only do participants learn firsthand where food comes from, but they also gain the skills necessary to turn farm-fresh produce into delicious and nutritious meals and snacks in our Learning Center kitchen. Afternoon activities include swimming or creating beautiful nature crafts. Campers receive recipe books at the end of the session so that they may replicate at home what has been made during camp!

For children ages 8-13. Two-week sessions begin in early July, Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Please note: due to the popularity of this camp, participants may only sign up for one session each summer.

This project has been supported by a grant from the Fund for Columbia County, a fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

  • The application process contains three steps:

    2. Payment of $300 Deposit
    3. On-line Health Form - to be completed by parent

    All three must be submitted for the application to be complete. Upon submission of this Application Form, you will be directed to both the Health Form and the Payment Form (the links will also be emailed to you).

  • Emergency Contacts

    Use this area to list the individual(s) we may contact in an emergency and you authorize to pick up your camper from camp at the end of a session in the event that you are unable to do so.
  • Camp Fees

    Fees are on a sliding scale of $750 to $850 for each two week session. The actual cost of attending the camp is indicated by the high end of the sliding scale. Parents are encouraged to pay the actual cost. However, if a family cannot afford it, they may choose to select another price within the range.
  • Permission for Activity

    My/Our child has permission to engage in all activities including supervised swimming and incidental immersion (wading through streams) at on/off campus sites during camp unless otherwise noted by the physician or me.
  • Sunscreen & Insect Repellent

    I consent to allow my child to use sunscreen and insect repellent he or she has brought to camp or that is supplied by the camp.
  • Participation Agreement & Refund Policy

  • There is a $300 non-refundable deposit required with this application. This deposit will be applied toward payment of the tuition and will be deducted from the amount due of your final payment.

    Once your application is received by this office, you will receive an email which will include a link to our Health Form. Please complete and return as soon as possible. If the session you applied for is full, we will contact you with alternative dates.

    Cancellation/Refund Policy: We need to be informed of any cancellations as soon as possible, so as to offer the opportunity to another child. IF another camper fills the vacant spot, you will be refunded all funds received when the camp session starts. IF another child cannot fill the vacant spot, you will be refunded the amount received minus a $100 processing fee when the camp session starts. The sessions are for 2 weeks, Monday through Friday. There is no refund or monetary adjustments offered for children who cannot attend the entire 2 week session. Refunds are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

    I hereby enroll my child in Kids Can Cook Summer Day Camp. In signing this application, I certify that he/she is healthy and free of problems that could adversely affect his/her stay or that of other campers at Hawthorne Valley.

    I understand that my child must comply with the camp’s rules and standards of conduct and that the organization may terminate my child’s participation in the camp program if he/she does not maintain these standards.
